Bewley's Cafe, Dublin

Bewley's of Grafton Street, Dublin, opened in 1927, and is a widely recognised city centre landmark.

The cafe freshly roasts its coffee on the premises and serves breakfasts, lunches and dinners.

One of the cafe's most famous features is a set of 6 priceless stained glass windows, by the artist Harry Clarke (died in 1931), located in the main coffee and tea room at a cost of £60,000. The Harry Clarke Room is the largest room in the building with high ceilings, chandeliers, paintings and sculptures. The building had once housed Whyte’s Academy, a school whose pupils included The Duke of Wellington and Robert Emmet.

Bewley's Grafton Street also comprises a Café Theatre in the "Oriental Room" of the cafe and features lunch time theatre and evening cabaret, jazz and comedy.

Bewley's Limited is an Irish company, which was established in 1840.

The Bewley family were Quakers who originated in France and moved to Ireland in the 18th century.
