Glasnevin Museum, Dublin
Opened in April 2010, Glasnevin Museum is a key Dublin attraction for people interested in Irish Heritage & Genealogy. The exhibitions aim to show the social, historical, political and artistic development of modern Ireland through the lives of the generations of people buried in Ireland’s Necropolis.
Glasnevin Museum features a fully interactive exhibition highlighting the history of the Victorian Garden Cemetary and the lives of those buried there. Also located within Glasnevin Museum are, The Tower Café, Glasnevin Trust shop and Genealogy research services, in addition to Glasnevin trust Florist & monument works.
Glasnevin Cemetery:
Ireland's Necropolis, first opened in 1832, is a must see for those with an interest in Irish History & Heritage, Glasnevin Cemetery walking tour visits the final resting place of Daniel O'Connell, Ireland's 'Liberator' from the penal laws; Michael Collins, Freedom Fighter and Minister for Finance in the first Dail; Eamon DeValera, 1916 veteran, 7 times Taoiseach, twice President; Charles Stewart Parnell, 'the uncrowned king of Ireland' agitator for Home Rule and leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party in the 1880's; Maud Gonne Mac Bride; revolutionary, muse to W.B. Yeats and mother of Sean McBride; countess Marcievicz, 1916 veteran, lifelong republican; Brendan Behan, writer, republican, Dublin wit; and many of the other men and women who have shaped Ireland's history.
Tours:
Glasnevin Trust now operate daily walking tours of Glasnevin Cemetery, giving a valuable insight to this unique burial place and into the final resting-place of many of the men and women who have helped shape Ireland's past and present.
