The Old Jameson Distillery, Dublin
Originally one of the 6 main Dublin Whiskeys, Jameson is now distilled in Cork, although vatting still takes place in Dublin. With annual sales of over 31 million bottles, Jameson is the best selling Irish whiskey in the world, and, indeed has been internationally since the early 19th century.
No longer a working distillery, the restored machinery in Bow Street and distillery scenes will take you through the 7 stages of whiskey making - from malting and milling right through to maturation.
Jameson Guides will take you through the fascinating story of Jameson smooth Irish whiskey from grain to glass. You will explore the history of John Jameson – the man and his triple distilled Irish Whiskey.
When John Jameson acquired the Bow Street Distillery in 1780, it was producing about 30,000 gallons per year. By the turn of the 19th century, it had become the second largest producer in Ireland and one of the largest in the world, producing 1,000,000 gallons annually. At the time, Dublin was the focal point of world whiskey production. It was the second most popular spirit in the world after rum, and by 1805 Jameson had become the world's number one whiskey. Today, Jameson is the third largest Single Distillery Whiskey in the world.
